It’s nearly that time of season again. Before we know it the holiday season will be upon us. Christmas and the holiday season is such a wonderful time of year. It’s a time to see friends and family, give and receive gifts, and a time to reflect on the prior year. It’s also time to listen to some great music. For centuries now the holidays have been ushered in with song. So many great holiday songs and albums have been made over the years, and we have a good number of them in stock at Bonjongles. We wanted to take some time today to talk about some of these albums and what makes them great.
What Makes Holiday Music So Good?
There certainly is a wide range of different holiday music, but most of it is uplifting in some way. Most Christmas and holiday songs are either peaceful or jovial, their messages containing religious themes or fun lyrics. From Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime,” to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want From Christmas is You,” these classic christmas tracks are earworms we love listening to each season.
Some Classic Christmas Albums
There have been thousands of different Christmas and holiday albums released over the years on both vinyl and CD. Everyone has different music tastes, so what may be a holy grail of an album to one person, another person would never dream of spinning that same record. Having said that, we wanted to list out some of the more popular Christmas and holiday albums:
● Elvis’ Christmas Album – The king of rock and roll became the king of Christmas when he released his Christmas album in 1957. Highlights include “Blue Christmas,” and “Santa Bring My Baby Back to Me”.
● A Charlie Brown Christmas – Charles Schulz’s Peanuts comic strip was a complete cultural phenomenon, spawning an entire merchandise empire, as well as a successful television show. The Christmas special for the show is considered a classic, as is the accompanying soundtrack.
● The Beach Boys’ Christmas Album – The Beach Boys were one of the biggest bands of all time, and they created one of the greatest Christmas albums of all time in 1964. They mixed their classic surf rock sound with traditional Christmas music, and the results were amazing!
